CHILDREN’S NARRATIVES BASED ON DIFFERENT MEDIA – COMPARATIVE APPROACH

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the connection between children’s retellings of specific content and the type of media used to present that content to children. The study examines the influence of media on the quality and quantity of children’s retellings. The research was conducted on a sample of 20 children aged 5.5–6 years, divided into two parallel groups. We employed the descriptive method for data collection, processing, and interpretation, along with the experimental method. The results indicate that children’s retelling is, to some extent, influenced by the type of media used to present the content. Children’s retellings of stories are more comprehensive and detailed compared to their retellings of cartoons. Furthermore, story-based retellings include richer character descriptions and introduce more characters than cartoon-based retellings. It was also observed that children often struggle to identify and express cause-and-effect relationships in their retellings, tending to simply list events. Based on these and other findings, the study emphasizes the important role of educators in assisting children to enhance their narratives. Educators can support children by helping them comprehend the content and aiding in its reproduction.
